Mark passed away unexpectedly this week following a sudden medical event. His passion, leadership, and unwavering dedication helped shape our mission and drive our work forward.

In Memoriam: Mark Owen Carney (1969–2024)
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Mark Owen Carney, a beloved Dedham educator, community advocate, and long-standing supporter of substance use prevention efforts. Mark passed away on April 7, 2024, at the age of 55.
A lifelong Dedham resident and committed public servant, Mark served the town not only as a teacher and administrator, but as a trusted partner and advocate in our collective work to build a healthier community. His dedication to youth, education, and prevention work left a profound and lasting impact on those fortunate enough to work alongside him.
Mark’s insight, compassion, and tireless advocacy played a foundational role in shaping the mission of the Dedham Organization for Substance Awareness (DOSA). His presence will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue to guide our work.
Mark was the cherished son of Barbara and William Carney, and he spent his life giving back to the community that raised him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this time of loss.
