What is the DFC (Drug-Free Communities) Program?

The Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Program is a federal initiative designed to support community-based efforts to prevent youth substance use. Administered by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and managed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the DFC program provides grants to local coalitions that aim to reduce substance use, particularly among youth. These coalitions are made up of community members, organizations, and leaders working together to develop and implement strategies to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.

The DFC program is dedicated to empowering communities to take the lead in preventing youth substance use by strengthening collaboration, utilizing local data, and engaging in evidence-based practices. Through DFC funding, DOSA works with local organizations, schools, law enforcement, and community members to create meaningful and lasting change.

DFC Funded Initiative

DOSA is proudly supported by the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program, a federal initiative that helps community coalitions like ours prevent and reduce substance use among youth. The DFC program provides funding to support local organizations in creating and implementing community-driven strategies to address substance use prevention. The goal of DFC is to bring together various community sectors—schools, local government, law enforcement, healthcare, and others—to work collaboratively toward creating lasting changes in the community.
